Plymouth School Board Honors Outgoing Members

Two Plymouth School Board members were honored during Tuesday night’s school board meeting as they complete their terms.

Superintendent Andy Hartley thanked Robin Cupka for her service on the school board.

“You stepped in to serve an open seat, technically twice, serving for a period of four years and a month,” said Hartley.  “It’s really been a pleasure getting to know you and work with you.  I appreciate your willingness to serve our community and I’ll look forward to seeing you still serve the community.  I know you’re active in your church and the Lion’s Club and other venues.  We appreciate the service you’ve provided to Plymouth Community Schools during this last term.”

Cupka commented that she felt like she was beginning to learn new things, but enjoyed her time on the board.  Kurt A. Christiansen will replace her on the school board beginning in January.

Hartley also commended Todd Samuelson for his 24 years of service on the Plymouth School Board.  Samuelson did not seek another term.

Hartley continued, “During this time, you’ve provided board leadership during the hiring of superintendents, two major building projects and several smaller ones, helped us navigate the ups and downs of the wonderful world of school finance, you’ve handed thousands of seniors their diplomas on graduation night including your three daughters, and you’ve taken several calls and provided countless hours of guidance, and you’ve done much, much more.  I can’t thank you enough for the service you’ve provided to our school corporation, to our community and to me personally.  Thank you.”

Samuelson said his 24 years went quickly and he is proud of a lot of things including working with his fellow school board members and the administrative team.  He thanked the community members for their support, but commented that it is time for someone new to occupy his seat.

Both Cupka and Samuelson were given a token of appreciation.  Members of the school board and other personnel in attendance at Tuesday’s meeting also had words of gratitude for both board members.
