Plymouth City Council Ratifies Executive Order for Fire Department

The Plymouth City Council members reviewed information in an Executive Order approved by Mayor Mark Senter that applies to the Plymouth Fire Department.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi said since the order has to do with vacation time in the handbook, the council members should ratify the order.

Fire Chief Rod Miller explained that he is asking that vacation days be paid out for a few members of the department

Miller stated, “We’ve been working an extreme amount of overtime and vacations have been canceled.  I think you understand what’s going on.  In order to keep that place staffed and going, I’ve been approached by several staff members if they could opt out to be paid the remaining of their vacation days.  That will alleviate a lot of my headaches to get through the rest of December.”

He said there are less than 10 days to be paid out to the members who have requested the action.

Miller noted that vacation days do not carry over to the next year, which is outlined in the employee handbook.

Mayor Senter commented that it is the right thing to do.

The Plymouth City Council members ratified the Executive Order with a unanimous vote.
