A second K9 officer will be staffed at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Matt Hassel asked the Marshall County Council members Monday morning to appropriate $10,000 out of the Commissary Fund to purchase the K9. He mentioned that the dog was trained by the Jager Elite K9 in Knox and a handler will be hired.
Hassel added that the Prosecutor’s Office is in full support of the addition and has agreed to put forth $10,000 in support of the acquisition. That money will be used to purchase the needed cage and environmental equipment for a designated K9 vehicle on the Sheriff’s Department fleet.
The Marshall County Council members approved the funding as requested with a unanimous vote.
