Governor Holcomb Extends Executive Order, Makes Change to Elective Surgery Restriction

Governor Eric Holcomb extended the most current executive order that outlines COVID-19 guidelines and practices.

The biggest change in the renewal is that non-emergent and elective surgeries can now be scheduled.  In his weekly COVID-19 press briefing, Governor Holcomb said that numbers have improved to the point where the restriction can be lifted.

“There is stress and strain there for sure, but it has improved,” stated Holcomb.  “We’ve worked with our hospitals, worked with individual hospital and they’ve requested and ensured us that they can continue to manage going forward.  So, we will lift that, but we monitor these numbers every day and every week.  So while there’s an executive order out there that goes three weeks, we’re going to be reviewing this tomorrow and the next day whether it’s a holiday or not – track and follow that ebb and flow of the cases.”

Local health departments will not be allowed to grant permission for larger events until at least January 24 when this current order expires.

As previously reported, regardless of a county’s color code, community recreational sports leagues and tournaments may continue but are limited to participants, support personnel, and parents/guardians and their minor children.

College and professional sports may continue with participants, support personnel and family members. A local health department may approve a plan for up to 25 percent capacity.

Face coverings are required for all residents. Businesses of all types are required to place clearly visible signs at their public and employee entrances notifying all that face coverings are required.

All customers in restaurants and bars are required to be seated. Tables, counters, or other seating arrangements must be spaced six feet apart.
