Governor Extends COVID-19 Public Health Emergency

Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed an executive order Tuesday that extends the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency for another 30 days.  This is the ninth Public Health Emergency executive order.  Governor Holcomb first declared a public health emergency on March 6.

In the executive order, it states that COVID-19 has spread to every county in Indiana with over 344,000 confirmed cases and nearly 5,600 deaths.  The 7-day average positivity rate is over 10 percent which is an increase from under 4 percent just over two months ago.  It is also noted that increased hospitalizations have taken place during that time.

The order identifies that the virus remains a threat to the health, safety and welfare to all residents and efforts are needed to “continue to address, control and reduce the threat posed by COVID-19”.

The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency will expire December 31.  At that time, the governor will reevaluate the situation and decide whether or not to extend the emergency.
