After discussion the issue at length in a work session last week, Culver Town Council members agreed Tuesday night to fund an additional EMS full-time employee.
EMS Director Jeff Koon made the plea in a presentation during the council’s last regular meeting, along with making some adjustments in the 2021 salary ordinance to increase the pay range for part-time employees and refusing to lease to tenants in order to attract workers, retain workers, and grow the department.
The addition of the full-time employee would bring the full-time staff up to four. The range of pay would be $18.00 to $20.00 an hour. The pay range for part-time EMTs would start at $15.00 an hour and $17.00 an hour for paramedics, with $1.00 less per hour during the orientation period.
That new information was approved and will be included in the 2021 salary ordinance.
The council also considered allowing employees be paid time-and-a-half for working five specific holidays including Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. It was unanimously approved and will be included in the 2021 salary ordinance, along with an hourly increase of about $.50 for employees.
