The Argos Town Council members reviewed proposed amendments to the nuisance ordinance last week.
Town Attorney Derek Jones said one amendment was included in the document since the first reading of the ordinance during the November 4 meeting. One of the conditions in the Grass and Weeds section was amended to include that the destruction of weeds and other rank vegetation by the use of chemical spray should be removed if it exceeds the height of eight inches.
The ordinance addresses other issues that may relate as a public nuisance including dangerous trees over public highways, accumulation of garbage or waste material that may endanger public health, noxious odors or smoke, noise, storage of explosives or combustible material, open wells, excessively tall grass and weeds, junk or abandoned vehicles, and nuisances created by others.
Many of the penalties are $50 with a $100 penalty for accumulation of trash and excessive weeds.
With that amendment, the Argos Town Council members suspended the rules approved the ordinance on second and third readings.
