Officials at the Triton School Corporation are watching the effects of COVID-19 very carefully in order to keep students and staff as safe as possible.
As a result, Triton Community School Superintendent Jeremy Riffle said the Triton Junior/Senior High School will begin with digital learning on Friday, November 13.
Riffle said the number of COVID-19 cases is low at the school corporation, but contact tracing and the number of quarantined students and staff members are a concern.
“We have a large percentage of our high school population that is quarantined, not necessarily sick,” explained Riffle. “We’ve been in communication with the Health Department and the superintendents to have that conversation of, what is our threshold, what would be their recommendation as far as trying to get through the wave and what is a critical mass?”
He added that schools are working to keep down the spread of COVID-19 and it has been recognized by the Marshall County Health Department.
“They were very complimentary of the schools as far as trying to minimize and mitigate spread. They feel like the schools have been a really safe place for our students as it relates to that. However, community spread is definitely impacting our schools right now.”
Communication with the Kosciusko and Marshall County Health Departments resulted in a decision to move the Junior/Senior High School to digital learning.
In-person instruction at the Junior/Senior High School will continue today (Wednesday, November 11), but students and teachers will transition from in-person instruction to digital instruction on Thursday and begin digital learning on Friday. The students and teachers will return to in-person instruction on Monday, November 30.
Athletic practices will resume, but scheduled games for the Junior/Senior High School will be postponed through November 30th.
Triton Elementary will continue with in-person instruction due to significantly less impact at this time.
