The Marshall County Commissioners are considering the purchase of a property on Plum Street in Plymouth to be used as a storage building for the Marshall County Maintenance Department.
Building and Grounds Maintenance Director Doug Masterson told the commissioners on Monday that the county currently rents a small garage on the east side of the Marshall County Building on Jefferson Street and it does not suit the department’s needs.
“Most of our equipment is sitting outside because it has a basement underneath it and we don’t trust it,” said Masterson. “We pay $6,000 a year in rent and honestly I think that if we could get this building it would get our equipment out of the weather. We could remove the small garage on top of the hill and we’d open up a lot of parking lot spaces that we need.”
Some other equipment is set in the old EMA Building.
He said the property on Plum Street may need a new roof, but that could be figured out later if the county purchases the property.
The commissioners approved a motion to allow County Attorney Jim Clevenger to ask for two appraisals on the building. The county would not pay more than the average of the two appraisals, similar to the commissioners’ recent purchase of the Doug Hite Law Office on Jefferson Street.
