The Marshall County Commissioners and members of the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board reviewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the entities last week.
The document allows the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board the ability to supervise and make rules concerning the Memorial Forest on State Road 17 and 14th Road, and the Mill Pond Forest near Rose Road. The properties are currently under the direction of the commissioners, but this allows improvements to be made by the park board on the properties for the general public.
One project to design and implement mountain bike trails at the Mill Pond Forest is in the discussion stages under the park board’s direction, but they need to make sure the Memorandum of Understanding is signed before more work proceeds.
More plans for those properties will be developed following a series of public engagement opportunities in the upcoming five-year master plan.
The commissioners approved the document at their meeting and the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board members approved it at their meeting last week.
