Governor and First Lady ‘In Good Health,’ Will Be Tested for COVID-19 Later this Week

Governor Eric Holcomb says he and his wife Janet remain in good health, after several members of their security detail tested positive for COVID-19. During Wednesday’s COVID-19 briefing, the governor said by phone that they’re following the directions of the state health commissioner and hunkering down.

“We were and are, have been, close contacts,” Holcomb explained. “So we’ll do the right thing, and we’ll stay at home, just as we’ve been asking everyone to do for the collective good.” Holcomb said that some of the security officers have developed symptoms, but they’re all generally doing well.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box explained that the state epidemiologist immediately began the contact tracing process Tuesday. “From those interviews, we were able to identify approximately 20 close contacts who needed to isolate or quarantine, including the governor and the first lady,” Box said.

Governor Holcomb and his wife haven’t been tested yet, since Box said the best window for testing is five to seven days after exposure.
