Bourbon Town Council Considers Increase in Part-Time Pay for Police Officers

To be more competitive with other police departments in attracting part-time help, Bourbon Town Marshal Bill Martin asked the Bourbon Town Council to consider increasing part-time pay from $17.15 to $20 an hour.

Martin said he has part-time officers who do work for the Argos Police Department and Culver Police Department on a part-time basis, but both of those departments offer over $20 an hour for part-time pay.  He said it is difficult to attract additional help, especially with the current extreme shortage of officers with the department.

The Bourbon Police Department is currently in the hiring process for officers.  Martin explained that his department is short two officers and he is not able to fill shifts.

The Bourbon Town Council unanimously approved a motion to approve the increase in part-time pay in the salary ordinance.  They were quick to thank Martin and the officers for efforts in keeping up with 24-hour coverage in the Town of Bourbon.
