The Argos Town Council members reviewed a proposed nuisance ordinance last week put together by Town Attorney Derek Jones, Argos Town Council member Shawn Harley and Argos Town Marshal Corey Bowman.
The ordinance addresses issues that may relate as a public nuisance including dangerous trees over public highways, accumulation of garbage or waste material that may endanger public health, noxious odors or smoke, noise, storage of explosives or combustible material, open wells, excessively tall grass and weeds, junk or abandoned vehicles, and nuisances created by others.
Many of the penalties are $50 with a $100 penalty for accumulation of trash and excessive weeds.
There may be additional changes before the second reading occurs during the Argos Town Council meeting next week, but the council members did approve the first reading of the ordinance last week.
