Plymouth City Council Supports Lone Human Resources Position

The Plymouth City Council members recently discussed the need of a lone full-time Human Resources employee for the City of Plymouth.

An employee in the Clerk’s Office is currently taking on the Human Resources duties, plus payroll and other work in the office.  It was mentioned that following the results of a recent audit, it was determined that a separate employee should be hired for the position.

The employee would work out of the legal office with City Attorney Sean Surrisi.  The council members leaned toward making it an in-house position rather than outsourcing that position, which was also supported by the department heads.  A salary and benefits have been budgeted in the 2021 budget year.

Councilman Don Ecker, Jr. stated at an earlier meeting that he has been a proponent for a lone Human Resources position for a while so investigations into complaints can be done with more confidentiality.

During the council’s last meeting, the members unanimously approved a motion to move forward with an in-house employee to be hired into the position and to make that position available with additional appropriations to be considered for a salary before the beginning of the year.  Future considerations would include an amendment to the salary ordinance for 2020 and 2021 along with a job description.  Action is expected in upcoming meetings.
