The Culver-Union Township Fire Department is looking for additional firefighters to join the roster.
Fire Chief Ken VanDePutte recently told the Culver Town Council members last week that the current firemen are looking to start a firefighter cadet program to look at recruiting younger men and women to serve on the department. Cadets can be 18 years of age or older and start the process of becoming a member of the department.
VanDePutte added that there are only 16 volunteers with the fire department now with one leaving in January and it is imperative that the membership increase in order to ensure more firefighters are available to answer the call. Mutual aid from area fire departments is often requested to help battle fires in the Culver area.
