Crews Working to Complete Bremen Downtown Project

Crews working on the downtown project in Bremen continue to aim for a November 21 completion date.

The project includes the replacement sidewalks and curbs, and the installation of new lighting and beautification efforts as part of the downtown revitalization project.  The project is part of the county’s Regional Development Plan in the Regional Stellar Communities Initiative which will benefit from grant dollars from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy gave an update to the Bremen Town Council members Monday night.  He said patching is being done on Center Street and Washington Street.

“Once we get all of the patches in and everything is level they’ll come back and mill it all, then they’ll come back on Monday and put the asphalt on. The curbs are supposed to be done tomorrow.  The electric lines are running now from Montgomery Street to Jackson Street so as soon as they get done with the curbs they’ll start bringing concrete this way.  The weather looks like it’s going to be pretty decent the next two weeks.  I would look for them to get a lot of concrete poured the next two weeks,” explained Weldy.

Weldy added there will be a delay in installing the stop lights at the intersection of Plymouth Street and Center Street by Bremen Town Hall.  They will not ship until December 15 and may not arrive until a few days before Christmas so a four-way stop will be observed at that intersection with appropriate signage.  Weldy said the town’s holiday lighting event is December 21 and town officials are hoping that event can be held.

Plymouth Street in downtown Bremen remains closed to traffic until the project is complete on November 21.
