Plymouth Police Chief David Bacon presented a request to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members last week about signage to alert drivers of a slower speed limit in areas by the Lincoln Junior High School.
“I was contacted by Brandon Berger, the director of transportation for Plymouth Community Schools, regarding their changed traffic pattern at the Junior High,” said Bacon. “He was inquiring to see if we could possibly put in school zone signs on Lincoln Highway around the Christos Banquet Center area on one end and on the other end around the old Warana apartments.”
The speed limit would be reduced from 35 mph to 25 mph where those signs would be installed.
Bacon added that he talked to Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt and he is in favor of installing those signs.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members approved the request with a unanimous vote.
Mayor Mark Senter asked Marquardt if he had considered making a no parking zone on the north or south side of LaPorte Street in that area. He said only one school bus can get down the road. Marquardt said he would take a look at it and send out letters to the residents affected.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi also noted a congested area after school at the intersection of Kingston and Lincolnway. Marquardt said he would look in that area and notify the residents in that area of possible changes there.
Those items are anticipated to be discussed at the board’s next meeting on September 28.
