Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel asked the county commissioners at their recent meeting to purchase a new vehicle.
He said two cars that were totaled in recent incidents and one was a K9 car.
“One was struck in the roadway by a really fast four-wheel ATV and totaled out the K9 car,” explained Sheriff Hassel. “The other one was begin operated by a reserve officer responding to an emergency call and when he turned on Olive off of 7th – the county highway just chip and sealed that road and it was nighttime and he didn’t see it and the car didn’t turn. It went straight into the trees. Right now I have a K9 that’s not in use and we need to get that dog back in use.”
The lowest quote gathered by the sheriff was for a pursuit-rated Ford Explorer in the amount of $32,747 from Oliver Ford in Plymouth. Other quotes came from John Jones for a Dodge Durango in the amount of $33,338 and Country Auto submitted a quote for a Dodge Durango at $34,077.
The commissioners approved the lowest quote from Oliver Ford with a unanimous vote.
