A kayak launch will be installed in 2021 at Shumaker Westside Park in Bremen to allow residents easier access to the Yellow River.
Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation District Watershed Coordinator Erica Wyss said a bank stabilization project is anticipated in that area off of West Plymouth Street in Bremen. Part of the project will entail a kayak launch.
A Lake and River Enhancement grant in the amount of $32,000 will be used to hire engineers to help develop the kayak launch.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said some rip rap may be used as part of the project which will be provided by the street department as a contribution.
Weldy added that the when the kayak launch is complete, residents can kayak down the Yellow River to Plymouth which is about a four-hour leisurely trek.
Wyss believes that the project will be complete in late 2021, depending on the weather.
