Culver Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim told the town council members this week that the governor’s moratorium on utility shutoffs ends Friday and affected utility customers have been notified.
Currently, Heim noted that 19 accounts are 90 days past due, 10 accounts are 60 days past due, and 37 accounts are 30 days past due totaling around $10,000.
Heim said that late fees will be assigned on Aug. 16 on the current bill. The accounts that are 90 days behind would get shutoff notices. If the account holders that are 60 days past due do not pay anything, they also will be given disconnect notices. Bills may be appealed before the Culver Town Council.
Those who are behind 30 days, if there has been no communication from a resident concerning an outstanding bill and payment has not been made, the utilities will be shut off in September.
In the notice, Heim said she included information on food, utility and rent assistance and how residents can benefit from the Fund the Essentials program by contacting the Marshall County Community Foundation and United Way for more information.
Heim said the town is willing to work with residents to get their bills paid.
The council members approved the timelines and plan as presented by Heim with a unanimous vote.
