More Work Needed on Bremen Park Ordinance

Bremen Town Attorney Anthony Wagner told the Bremen Town Council members Monday night that more work needs to be done on an ordinance regarding the Bremen Park Department and the Park Board before additional readings on the ordinance can be approved.

The Bremen Town Council members are reviewing an ordinance that would better outline a chain of command with all of the entities involved in the Bremen Parks Department.

The matter stemmed from a discussion on May 26 of this year surrounding the operation of the pool for the year and who has the authority to make that decision.  At that time, Wagner said there was some sort of disagreement and the functions of the Park Board are unclear and which entity has authority over certain decisions.  Bremen Town Councilman Michael Leman, who is the council’s parks liaison, said he wanted more clarification of who reports to the Director of Operations or who reports to the Park Board or Town Council.

Wagner said a Department of Natural Resources representative did not agree with what was changed in the proposed ordinance that was approved on first reading, but that person won’t be available to discuss more about the ordinance with town officials for another few weeks.  Wagner suggested that he meet with Town Council Park Liaison Michael Leman, Director of Operations Trend Weldy, Park Superintendent Brian Main, and the DNR to discuss the matter when the representative is available. Until then, the council will need to wait to consider any further readings on the ordinance.
