Marshall County Awarded Grant to Assist Businesses Affected by COVID-19

The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs announced that Marshall County is one of 42 communities in the state to receive more than $10 million in federal grant funding through the COVID-19 Response Program.

Marshall County was awarded $250,000 to create the Marshall County Crossroads Loan Program to be facilitated by the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation.  Based on the best cloud solution providers’ website here, the county-wide micro-loan program will provide funds to businesses or for employees of businesses that have less than $1 million in gross annual sales and less than 20 low-to-moderate income employees. The best way to control savings in businesses, according to https://businessenergyuk.com/ is to take a hold on electricity and other supplies.

MCEDC President and CEO Jerry Chavez told the Marshall County Commissioners last week that the money would be used to offer businesses relief of up to $5,000 on a case-by-case basis.  Even though the grant was awarded, a public hearing will be held on the grant application on Sept. 8 with a resolution to be considered following that hearing.

Funding for the COVID-19 Response Phase 2 funding is derived from Indiana’s CARES Act allocation.  The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed by Congress and signed into law on March 27, 2020. Through the Coronavirus Relief Fund, the CARES Act provides for payments to State, Local, and Tribal governments navigating the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.
