Bremen Town Council Holds Second Public Hearing on Downtown Project

The Bremen Town Council members held a second public hearing on Monday to take comments on the upcoming Bremen downtown project that is part of the Marshall County Crossroads Stellar Communities Initiative Regional Development Plan.

Grant funding from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs will pay for the project, along with the Town of Bremen’s match. The estimated cost of the project is $1,325,759.   The Town of Bremen’s match for the project is $323,859.

The project includes new sidewalks, curbs, lighting, and other beautification efforts in the downtown area.  INDOT plans to pave State Road 106 through the entire length of Bremen at the end of this project.

Grant writer Shannon McLeod from Priority Project Resources explained that the grant funding has been set aside by officials from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, but the town still needs to apply for the grant to keep within the state’s process.  That has been done, but the second public hearing is the last part of the preliminary process.

There were no public comments during the public hearing.

A pre-bid meeting was held this week for the project.  Bids will be opened for the project by the Bremen Town Council on Monday, Aug. 10 with an award to be made rather quickly to issue a notice to proceed directly after that.  McLeod said it is the plan to start this process following INDOT’s work to replace an underground water and sewer main, and the installation of new drainage infrastructure which is currently underway.  Plymouth Street is currently closed between Montgomery Street and Washington Street for that project that is expected to be complete in September.
