Argos Town Council Considers Speed Limit Request

Mark and Leasia Cleary asked the Argos Town Council members last week to consider lowering the speed limit in the area of the Colonial Court Manufactured Home Park on Marshall Street.

They said a lot of people walk from the downtown area to the park and believe drivers are traveling too fast in that portion of town.  Several people have had to dodge cars to not be affected by oncoming traffic.

Mark Cleary said he asked a few people to drive 20 mph through there, slower than the 30 mph posted speed limit, and he said the feedback he received seemed favorable for a slower speed limit.  There is growth in that area as well so safety is a priority.

Town Marshal Corey Bowman said officers have stopped several vehicles for speeding on Marshall Street so a change may help.

The Argos Town Council members unanimously approved a motion to amend the speed ordinance to reduce the speed limit to 20 mph on Marshall Street from Michigan Street to U.S. 31.  The formal approval of the amendment would be presented at the council’s next meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
