A groundbreaking celebration was held in Bourbon on Wednesday afternoon to welcome in new Habitat for Humanity homes.
Two new Habitat for Humanity homes will be built in Bourbon as part of a bigger project across Marshall County to provide housing assistance to residents in the community.
The two homes that will feature two bedrooms and two bathrooms will be constructed by grant funds obtained by the Habitat for Humanity of Marshall County organization. They will be located on property donated by the Town of Bourbon at the corner of E. Center and Thayer Streets. The property acted as an in-kind donation to help Habitat for Humanity obtain grant funding for the project.
The project in Bourbon has been in the works for several years, with Bourbon Town Council member Les McFarland behind the effort.
“We are very excited to partner with Habitat on this exciting housing opportunity,” said McFarland. “New home construction in Bourbon is a much needed addition and the opportunity to provide the needed land will have positive benefits for the town and our school system.”
Habitat for Humanity representatives thanked the town for the partnership and the Marshall County Community Foundation for their assistance in making the grant possible.
In all, 10 homes will be built in Marshall County as a result of the grant.
