Plymouth School Board Approves Adjustment to Professional Development Schedule

When the school year begins at the Plymouth Community School Corporation, there will no longer be a late start to the Monday schedule for students.

The Plymouth School Board members heard from Superintendent Andy Hartley who said that an early release on Friday would be better scheduled than a later start for students on Mondays as teachers take part in professional development.

“Our late start Mondays created a large congregation of students who were waiting to go to class, especially kids who were still dropped off at their regular time,” stated Hartley.  “That is not something we don’t want to have in our structures and promote that.  This will alleviate that.”

Hartley noted that professional development may not take place every Friday.

“It does not mean that they’re going to have professional development on the last 30 minutes of every Friday.  Teachers and principals will work together and work that out.  They could bank that time and create an hour every other week before or after school.  It creates an opportunity for that to be individualized.

The school board approved the change with a unanimous vote.
