The Marshall County Election Board members asked the Marshall County Council members for $560 in additional wages and more for election supplies.
It was explained that the wages request was for additional workers on Election Day for canvassing election ballots. The money will need to replace the transfer made from absentee workers.
Additionally, Clerk Deb VanDeMark is asking for additional funds for office supplies as an increase in the absentee balloting process caused the board to exceed that budgeted item. The council approved the request for $320.
She anticipates more election expenses this fall.
“It’s going to be a big election because now we’re going to actually decide on the president,” stated VanDeMark. “I anticipate more mail and that means more ballot cards, more sleeves, more envelopes, and more people to help with it. I guess I would like to see some idea on what direction to go with in asking for additional money, not knowing what the need is right now.”
VanDeMark was encouraged to look at the election budget and see what expenses she may incur and present a request in the fall. She said over $4,000 was spent with absentee workers and supplies in the Primary Election. Councilman Health Thornton said that may need to be doubled or even tripled in the fall election.
