The Argos Town Council members may soon have regulations on the discharge of fireworks.
Argos Town Council members have fielded phone calls from residents regarding the nuisance of fireworks. The state has a statute regarding fireworks that allows fireworks to be discharged between the hours of 5 p.m. and two hours after sunset from June 29 through July 3 and from July 5 through July 9. On July 4, fireworks may be discharged between the hours of 10 a.m. and midnight. Fireworks may also be in use between the hours of 10 a.m. on Dec. 31 and 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
The town council members talked last week about enacting a local ordinance that can make those guidelines a bit tighter, as allowed in the state statute.
Those provisions may be included in an updated nuisance ordinance. Police Chief Corey Bowman, Town Attorney Derek Jones and Argos Town Council member Shawn Harley have been working to include some other points to include in the current ordinance which will be presented to the council soon.
