Nappanee Man Charged in Suspected Overdose Death of Marshall County Man

Jeffrey Sandoval

The Marshall County Prosecutor recently filed a Level 1 Felony charge against Jeffrey Sandoval, of Nappanee, of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death.  The charge is punishable by a sentence of 20 to 40 years, if convicted.

Prosecutor Nelson Chipman said the alleged Marshall County victim, Michael Rollins, was not breathing when a 911 call was made to the Marshall County Central Dispatch Center on Feb. 8, 2020.  Emergency personnel from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Polk Township Fire Department, Walkerton EMS, and Plymouth Fire/EMS attempted CPR and administered Narcan, but his revival was unsuccessful, according to the report.

Marshall County Coroner John Grolich told investigators that the results of an autopsy found that Rollins reportedly died of heroin and methamphetamine intoxication.  According to Chipman, further investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department determined that Jeffrey Sandoval was Rollins’ potential source of similar controlled substances near the date of death.  As a result, Chipman stated that Sandoval was interviewed by Marshall County Sheriff’s Department detectives and was held in the Marshall County Jail.

Sandoval’s initial hearing was held in Marshall County Superior Court No. 1 on Wednesday, June 3.  Sandoval will be represented by Attorney Tom Black as appointed pauper counsel.    His bond was set at $100,000 cash.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
