Marshall County Plan Director Ty Adley gave the Marshall County Council members an update on how things fared in 2019.
He said there were a record number of permits in 2019.
“We broke 2017’s record of 815 permits and shattered it with 947 last year,” commented Adley. “As of first quarter this year, we’re beating first quarter and record this year as well so we’re anticipating to see what’s going to happen this second quarter because that correlates more with COVID.”
The valuations of those permits were also healthy.
“Last year’s valuation was $68.4 million and we eclipsed that as well with $73.1 million in business so there’s a lot going on in Marshall County. It’s great to see and we’re looking forward to see what adventures 2020 has left.”
He added that cases before the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission and Technical Review Committee have also increased.
The online permitting process has allowed progress to continue even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Adley noted that even though the county buildings are open to the public applicants have the choice of coming into the office or going through the process online if residents or commercial representatives are nervous about an in-person setting.
His department has also completed the Culver zoning updates, and will soon complete Bremen zoning updates. They will work with the Town of Argos coming up next to get zoning updates done there.
