Marshall County Health Officers Encourage Mask Use, Social Distancing

Marshall County Health Administrator Ashley Garcia and Public Health Nurse Lisa Letsinger discussed the increasing positive COVID-19 case numbers during Tony Ross’ morning show Wednesday morning.

Garcia commented that more residents in the 20-40 age range are registering positive test results.  Some multi-generational households are also showing increased positive numbers and she urges everyone to stay as safe as possible.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Marshall County on Wednesday was 374.  Garcia said the number has increased drastically in the past month as more facilities became open to the public.

Garcia believes the increase in cases is directly correlated with more activity in the county.  More people are visiting shops, restaurants and events like graduation parties that can lead to a spread of COVID-19.  She strongly recommends wearing a mask in public areas and observing social distancing protocols.

Letsinger noted that just because Stage 5 of Governor Holcomb’s Back on Track plan takes effect on July 4 does not mean that there is not a concern of the coronavirus.  Everyone must take precautions to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Health officials continue to work with Marshall County school superintendents to assist them in creating plans to reopen in-person instruction in the fall.
