Marshall County Blueberry Festival Canceled

The Marshall County Blueberry Festival Committee made the difficult decision to cancel the Blueberry Festival in Plymouth this year.  Board member Carrie Vanza talked about the board’s decision with MAX 98.3 FM Morning Show Host Tony Ross Thursday morning.

“It’s hard but this year’s Blueberry Festival is going to be canceled,” announced Vanza.  “As must as it pains me to say that, due to what’s going on in the world today we have to make this heavy-hearted decision and do what is best for the people of Marshall County and those who would come and visit the festival.”

Festival Coordinator Karen O’Neal agreed that it was a hard decision to make.

She said, “The board has met several times and tried to figure out what we should do.  We’ve really been going by the governor’s guidelines and following along with what he’s been saying.  We’ve been listening very closely.  I’ve been getting letters, emails and phone calls.  Honestly, we can’t have a festival and follow those guidelines.  It’s really a safety thing.”

She commented that the social distancing aspect would be impossible to observe with the gigantic crowd drawn to the festival each year.  It would have also been very costly to incorporate hand washing stations and other sanitation requirements for the festival.

This is the first year in its history that the Blueberry Festival will not occur.
