Bourbon Wastewater Improvement Project Gets More Funding

The proposed wastewater improvement project for the Town of Bourbon is expected to get more funding.

Bourbon Town Council member Les McFarland told the rest of the council members Tuesday night that the wastewater project is the town’s major project in the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar Initiative Regional Development Plan.  He explained that some Stellar funding was moved around when committee members discovered that some projects would not be funded and others had lower cost estimates.  That resulted in additional money to be split between Bourbon and Lapaz with about $200,000 added to Bourbon’s major project.

McFarland stated that Bourbon’s major project will include the replacement of the east and the south water lift stations, along with the corrections with drainage problems in town.

The total amount the town will have in Stellar funds toward the project is about $840,000.  The town’s match would be $243,000, but if that match can’t be met, the water infiltration system will be taken out of the project and just the lift station portion of the plan would remain.

McFarland said it was a big win for the Town of Bourbon and more planning for that project is expected to take place soon.
