Plymouth Park Board Makes Decision on Pool, Day Camp for Summer 2020

The Plymouth City Pool will be closed for the 2020 season.

The Plymouth Park Board members met in a special session Monday night where they determined it to be a responsible move not to open the pool for the year.

Park Superintendent Michael Hite commented that the cleaning guidelines are very strict where an additional employee would need to be hired for hourly cleaning responsibilities.  He also said that there would be a limit of the number of people in the facilities with social distancing measures in place.

In addition, the summer Day Camp would need to place one counselor with 10 kids and those kids would be with the same counselor the entire day while maintaining a social distance at all times.  Social distancing at the facilities would also be difficult.

The Plymouth Park Board members agreed with Hite and made a motion to close the pool and cancel Day Camp for 2020.  They echoed Hite’s sentiment that it was difficult to make that decision, but they want to be responsible for the safety of the patrons and the park employees.

As for swim lessons, a plan may work with the pool at the LifePlex and at the Aquatic Center.  City Attorney Sean Surrisi said he would speak with Director Leanne Senter about those possibilities soon.

Hite did say that everything else will open at the parks next week including playground equipment, the skate park, tennis courts, and ball diamonds.  Visitors will need to heed to social distancing recommendations and park guidelines.
