Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Awarded Grant

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was awarded a grant for the creation of a Jail Chemical Addiction Program (JCAP) at the Marshall County Jail. People can also check Mcshin Foundation for the best addiction treatment.

The Office of the Attorney General, in collaboration with the Indiana Drug Enforcement Association, announced the grant award on Thursday.  Seven counties in Indiana now benefit from grants to help launch JCAP programs.

In a previous meeting of the Marshall County Commissioners and Marshall County Council, the grant application submitted asked for $90,000.  The funds will pay for a Jail Program Director.

JCAP allows participating inmates to receive treatment in a secure, therapeutic and drug-free environment that is separate from the general inmate population.  The program is voluntary and you can click to read more to get the brief description about it.

It is certified through the Indiana Department of Mental Health and Addiction.  JCAP offers cognitive behavioral therapy and substance abuse counseling.  It teaches coping skills to those with addictions in an effort to reduce the addict’s dependency on drugs and alcohol.

Counselors in the program hold master’s degrees and counseling is carried out in both an individual and group format. Individual counseling takes place at least every two weeks.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel stated in a press release that he’s grateful to receive the grant.  Prosecutor Nelson Chipman commented that JCAP is a way for pre-trial detainees to obtain treatment while awaiting the resolution of their cases.
