Marshall County Election Board Reviews Important Primary Election Dates

Marshall County Election Board: Sean Surrisi, Deb VanDeMark, Rick Huff, and Voter Registration Deputy Melinda Keilman

The Marshall County Election Board members reviewed important dates for the upcoming Primary Election on June 2.

Voter registration ends on Monday, May 4.  Residents have until then to log onto www.IndianaVoters.com to update their information in order to vote in this year’s Primary Election.  Even if registration has taken place, voters are urged to check their information to ensure it’s correct in time for voting.

Travel Board voting begins May 14.  Clerk Deb VanDeMark said this is typically when a Democrat and a Republican representative go into nursing homes and other places where confined voters are located and assist them in filling out a ballot.  The option of entering those locations is unlikely with this election due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Clerk Deb VanDeMark suggested an alternate way of collecting those votes.  She said the Clerk’s Office receives an absentee ballot application list from the nursing homes every year.  She suggested getting the applications ready, deliver them to the facility’s door, have the nursing home employees securely obtain signatures, get the ballots ready, have a Democrat and Republican representative deliver the ballots to the facility, and the workers could assist the voter and secure the ballot. The worker and the voter would sign a form and then the ballot would be mailed to the Marshall County Clerk’s Office.

Signatures would be checked to ensure that the voter signed the ballot properly.

The Election Board members agreed to that change and it will be in effect on May 14.

In other important dates to remember, Campaign Finance Reports are due on May 15 by noon at the Clerk’s Office, and the deadline to receive an absentee ballot application is May 21.

In-person absentee voting is Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Marshall County Clerk’s Office, and then Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bremen Town Hall, the Culver Community Schools Administration Office and the Marshall County Clerk’s Office.  The last day to vote absentee in person is Monday, June 1 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Clerk’s Office.
