A graduation ceremony is planned for the Bremen High School senior class.
Superintendent Dr. Jim White said the outdoor graduation ceremony is set for Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m.
Dr. White explained, “Because of all of the restrictions, we sat down with the student leaders and weighed our options. So, we’re moving forward with a drive-thru graduation! I think it’s going to be a pretty neat thing.
“The students are going to decorate their cars and caps. We’ve got a trailer stage on loan from the City of Nappanee that they have for the Apple Festival. We’re going to order the cars alphabetically and line themselves through the streets of Bremen and then we’re going to work it like a graduation.
“We’ll have our valedictorian and our salutatorian speak and then they will talk a little bit about the student, they’ll come up on stage, get their diploma, get back to their car, and they’re going to form a line on Bowen Avenue. The police are going to stack them up in rows. Once everyone has received their diploma they’re going to take a cruise throughout the city, and hopefully there will be people in their yards that can greet them and give them the congratulations and the accolades they deserve!”
The graduation will be broadcast live on MAX 98.3 FM.
“That’s a fantastic opportunity so everyone will be locked into that radio station to hear that. We will live-feed it on Facebook as well,” said Dr. White.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy told the Bremen Town Council members Monday afternoon the stage will be placed on the street in front of the high school and not technically on school property. The council members discussed the closure of Grant Street, but did not make the action official.
Fire trucks and police vehicles will lead the seniors through town on Bowen, Marshall and South Streets. The council members encouraged the residents to wave at the seniors to congratulate their accomplishment.
