A portion of the downtown street project in Bremen has been delayed until August.
The downtown project will include the replacement of curbs and sidewalks and new lighting on Plymouth Street between Montgomery Street to Washington Street ahead of a paving project planned on that street by INDOT.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy told the Bremen Town Council on Tuesday that officials from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs delayed funding for the project.
The paving project by INDOT and the installation of lighting on Plymouth Street were anticipated to be done at the same time in order to save money on the project. The installation of water mains and sewer laterals is currently being done ahead of the paving project so the new road won’t have to be torn up to complete that work. That will save the town thousands of dollars.
The Troyer Group, who assisted the town with the downtown project, is working with INDOT to coordinate the details.
In the meantime, a bid from Power Line Supply in the amount of $299,054.18 was unanimously approved for the acquisition of street light poles and traffic signal poles. A bid opening for the installation of that equipment is set for mid-June. INDOT is providing $300,000 to help fund that portion of the project. It will be done when the sidewalks and curbs are replaced and when the street project is underway.
