The Marshall County Crossroads Stellar Communities Initiative representatives are moving forward with the projects outlined in the Regional Development Plan for the Regional Stellar Communities Designation program.
Marshall County Crossroads was designated a Regional Stellar Community in 2019 with projects beginning in all of the communities in the county. Projects are planned throughout the four-year designation.
Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi told the Plymouth City Council members Monday night that the renovation of the REES Theater is the city’s first project and the application for the funding will be submitted this summer. The city already earmarked the matching funds for this.
The State announced earlier this year that the 2020 Regional Stellar Communities Designation program was halted where Community Development Block Grant funds will be directed toward COVID-19 response. The county applied for some of the funds to be used toward COVID-19 response in the amount of $250,000 for electronic signs for each community.
Surrisi told the Plymouth City Council members Monday night that an individual application for the City of Plymouth is being considered. The city could apply for funds to assist small businesses. Small business owners could apply for a grant through the city to request money for payroll, utilities, rent, or mortgages. More information on that will be given in a future setting.
