Marshall County Clerk Deb VanDeMark and her staff members are busy collecting absentee ballot applications and mailing out ballots.
The Indiana Election Division is encouraging voting absentee by mail in the Primary Election on June 2 in a continuous effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
VanDeMark said over 140 ballots have been mailed out as of Wednesday morning.
The State adjusted the absentee voting rules for this election where a voter does not have to cite an excuse why he or she cannot be at the polls on Election Day in order to obtain an absentee ballot.
VanDeMark said in order to obtain an absentee ballot, voters have to call the office at 574-936-8922 and leave their name, address, birth date, and phone number and the staff will mail out a Democrat or Republican ballot to the voter. She stressed that the envelopes are processed at the office and the envelopes are sealed. She asked that when the voters return ballots, use water to wet the glue on the envelope to return the ballot to the office.
The Marshall County Election Board members will be meeting soon to make more decisions concerning actions to take in the June 2 Primary Election. The Marshall County Commissioners recently approved a resolution that officially changes the date of the Primary Election to June 2 in the county and changes the Primary Election holiday to June 2.
