The Marshall County Council members reviewed the application for Community Development Block Grant funds from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The $250,000 requested by the county will be used to purchase electronic billboards for each of the communities in Marshall County in order to make county-wide communication more accessible to residents. For those who do not have access to social media or the internet, it will be a way for them to receive information about the next steps in response to COVID-19. Residents could see where pop-up food pantries would be available when that program is instituted.
Following the COVID-19 response, the message boards will be used to promote local activities, and to promote local businesses when they reopen to patrons for service.
Matching funds in the amount of $80,000 would be provided toward the project with the money to be split between the county and Marshall County Tourism.
The Marshall County Council members approved the application with a unanimous vote.
