The Culver Town Council members took action Tuesday night to approve grant funds for small businesses to assist them during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council members last week approved about $150,000 in funds through various budget line items to make those funds available for Culver’s small businesses. The funds can be used toward rent, mortgage, utilities, and payroll.
Each business could apply for a grant up to $7,500.
Culver Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe said she and committee members Rich West, Town Manager Jonathan Leist and Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim reviewed 21 applications last week. Several applications were submitted for the full amount with the lowest amount at $3,200. The total amount requested was $136,075.
Munroe noted that supporting documentation for each grant request was provided to show the need for the grant. She added that these grants help bridge the gap in case it takes longer for a federal Small Business Administration loan to be approved for other types of expenses.
Munroe asked the council to approve the funds as requested and the request was approved with a unanimous vote.
