The Marshall County Commissioners will meet today where they will have more discussion on the solar ordinance and solar fee ordinance.
Both ordinances were approved on first reading during the last commissioners meeting. The amended solar ordinance gives the county stricter guidelines on the installation of solar projects. There are 20 conditions a large solar farm project must follow before it is initiated in Marshall County.
Legal counsel for the county and Marshall County Plan Commission were to discuss more with Barnes and Thornburg officials about the decommissioning process, bonding and tax abatement information. County Attorney Jim Clevenger stressed that the county can amend the ordinance as needed if more provisions are realized.
The solar fee ordinance would require a developer to pay per acre for a permit. All measurements are measured in panel square feet. A micro solar project permit would be $40, a small project would be $80, a medium project would be $150, a large project would be $250, a solar energy farm would be $25 a panel acre.
In additional business, the commissioners will consider a grant request from Lisa Letsinger from the Marshall County Health Department, and consider an ordinance to create a Marshall County Park and Recreation Department. Highway Superintendent Jason Peters, Auditor Julie Fox and County Attorney Jim Clevenger will provide regular updates.
The Marshall County Commissioners will meet this morning at 8:30 a.m. in the second floor meeting room (Room 203) in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.
