The Culver Town Council members will meet tonight where they will review a salary ordinance amendment pertaining to the Culver Police Department.
In the proposed ordinance amendment, the town marshal would be changed from a salaried employee to an hourly employee at a rate of $27.47 and must reach 84 hours in a two-week pay period before receiving overtime pay. It also states that a part-time deputy would be paid in a range of $20.00 to $23.00 per hour. It would be retroactive to the Feb. 16 pay period and expire on June 7, unless extended by the town council. It would revert to the original language after the time period.
Town Attorney Jim Clevenger said Town Marshal Wayne Bean is an exempt employee and not entitled to overtime pay. He questioned the changing of the classification of his pay.
Upon clarification of the classification of pay, the Culver Town Council members will consider the salary ordinance on second and third reading.
The council members will also receive updates on the Regional Stellar efforts as well as ongoing and upcoming projects in the Culver Stellar Communities Designation plan. All department heads will provide reports to the council.
The Culver Town Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. ET tonight following a 5 p.m. ET work session to discuss the town’s contract with the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation. Both meetings will be at the Culver Town Hall at 200 E. Washington Street.
