Bourbon Town Council Consider Measures for Traffic Control at Triton Schools

The Bourbon Town Council members considered two documents Tuesday night that deal with traffic control at the Triton School Corporation.

A Memorandum of Understanding between the two entities was approved where the Triton School Board asked the town to adopt an ordinance that would regulate traffic control on the grounds of the Triton School Corporation.

The ordinance states that the maximum speed on Triton Drive shall be 20 mph. Further, drivers found to be disobeying the speed limit shall be subject to the fines, penalties, and forfeitures specified by Indiana law.  Any fines assessed will be deposited into the Town of Bourbon’s General Fund budget.

The ordinance would become effective when signs giving notice of the speed limit are posted on Triton Drive in addition to proper publishing of the ordinance.

The Triton School Corporation will remain responsible for maintaining Triton Dirve and all crosswalks and parking lots with general laws.

The Bourbon Town Council members approved the ordinance on first reading.  They then suspended the rules and approved the ordinance on the second and third readings with a unanimous vote, thus adopting the ordinance.
