Pioneer Drive Project in Plymouth in Design Phase

The proposed Pioneer Drive project in Plymouth remains in the design phase, but enough information should be available to submit a funding request through the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The purpose of the project is to widen a portion of Pioneer Drive in Plymouth to three lanes to accommodate an increase in truck traffic in that area north of U.S. 30 to 7B Road.

City Engineer Rick Gaul presented a proposal to the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members Tuesday night from the Lochmueller Group to move forward with the design of the project.

Project Manager Ryan Clark said the initial proposal included gathering information to be included in the application for the Community Crossings Matching Grant program, as well as survey and geotechnical work and pavement design.  The amendment allows for the contractor to go to 100 percent design to be ready for construction this spring.

“Part of the amendment is additional funds for roadway design, plan development, and contract documents,” Clark explained.  “It also includes Rule 5 permitting requirements, utility coordination, address any conflict analysis, resolution, and work plan development with utilities.”

The amendment provides hourly rate services for bid phase assistance, bid tabulation, pre-bid meeting questions, and construction phase services which may include addressing questions from city officials or contractors during the construction phase.

The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members approved the contract amendment as presented for an amount not-to-exceed $175,100, which is an increase of about $93,000 to include more services to the city.
