First No Thru Trucks Ticket Recorded

The first ticket was given to a truck driver who reportedly violated the No Thru Trucks ordinance.

Marshall County Commissioner Stan Klotz told his fellow commissioners that he’d like Highway Superintendent Jason Peters target the areas where most violations occur and set up a task force to get the semi trucks off the county roads.

“We created our own menace now that the roads we’ve fixed have become racetracks,” commented Klotz.  “We need to get the trucks off of them before the spring thaw comes.”

He hopes to work to get reserve officers to do these specialized patrols.  Interlocal agreements would need to be approved for officers in the jurisdictions involved.

The commissioners passed the ordinance in January 2019 which states that no person shall operate a truck with a gross vehicle weight rating in excess of 26,000 pounds where a posted sign prohibits the action. The operator can access the road for a business purpose or as a resident living on that county road.  The restriction does not apply to school buses or fire trucks.

The commissioners may grant permission to an applicant who applies in writing or if alternate routes are unreasonable and the use of the restricted road in the public interest.

Those who violate the ordinance can expect to pay a fine of $300.
