The Culver Town Council members considered a request to encumber funds from the 2019 budget to the 2020 budget for the purchase of items for the Culver Police Department and the Culver-Union Township Fire Department.
Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim explained that $10,857.30 will be encumbered for the police department for the purchase of bullet proof vests and the payment of unused vacation time.
For the fire department, $25,127.38 will be encumbered for the purchases of hoses, thermal imaging cameras and matching funds for the purchase of radios if successful in obtaining a grant. Heim said the fire chief usually waits to make big purchases until the end of the year to ensure that funds are available in case a large maintenance issue arises.
The encumbrances were advertised prior to the council’s consideration last week. The council members did approve them as presented with a unanimous vote.
