Plymouth City Council Approves Economic Revitalization Area Request

Bomarko, Inc. officials still plan on expanding operations, but at a different site than originally proposed in a previous request.

According to Jennifer Hewitt, the company’s CFO, the Plymouth City Council members approved a tax abatement request last year that included new construction, but plans have changed.

“When we got into all of the specifics of building on our current site we had a lot of challenges that were going to make the project very expensive due to the flood zone and lower elevation that we have on our property, some underground facilities – there was a lot involved,” said Hewitt.  “There’s a vacant building adjacent to our property that is almost three times the size that we were going to build and we decided to purchase that building instead of building a new building.”

The building is located at 2400 Walter Glaub.  To begin the tax abatement process on this new request, Hewitt said company officials are asking to transfer the previously approved Economic Revitalization Area and tax abatement to the new site.  The declaratory resolution documentation was approved with a unanimous vote.  A public hearing is planned at the council’s next meeting.

The company is planning an expansion investment with over $3 million in additional equipment. A new printing press will be installed as part of the plan which will include a wider selection of colors and the capability of plastic printing, a pre-press piece of machinery and more.

The company has been in the Plymouth community since 1963. There are currently 120 employees at the business and 20 more are expected as part of this investment. They offer wages of $27.00 an hour and want to remain loyal to their employees as well as their customers.
