Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters gave the county council members a snapshot of what the department has been doing in 2019.
“Completion numbers this year include 60 miles of chip and seal, 25 miles of triple seal and 16.1 miles of paving this year,” stated Peters. “We also made 4,000 ton of our own cold patch in-house.”
Peters commented that the purchase of the chipper box and distributor last year has increased productivity and quality of product.
He also reported that the number of complaints has dropped since 2014 which was the first year the department kept track of the calls.
“We had 735 complaints come in the first year. In 2019, we were down to 375.”
Peters said the communication between the highway department and county government officials has gotten better over the past few years in order to streamline processes at the highway garage. He noted that it has contributed to the reduction of the number of complaints.
